Grade II listed cottage

Studio denim was entrusted with the renovation of this charming house, located near Cowdray, in the heart of West Sussex. Our client wanted this house as a commercial enterprise, and this had to be at the heart of every decision we made on the project.

Where possible original features were retained and restored lovingly, for instance the original beams and quarry tiles have been brought back to life.

The kitchen was a complete refurb, a classic shaker style painted a deep olive green with new lighting installed, antique dining table and chairs sourced, combined with original bookcase storage and panelling.

Sustainability was very important for this project, using natural finishes and high quality eco paints.

Ultimately, my ethos, and something that inspired the name of Studio Denim, is that interiors should be like good quality denim: age beautifully and withstand the test of time.

16th century Sussex house

The client’s brief for the scheme was to bring inside the earthy, warm colours and textures of the surrounding countryside.

In the reception rooms original beams were stripped and restored, window treatments with trims and layers of velvets and ikats used, to create the cosiest of living spaces. Lighting was key in these spaces and was designed to add warmth, colour and pattern wherever possible.

Sustainability was very important for this project, using natural finishes and high quality eco paints.

Rattan chairs combined with colourful antique pieces to add some playful interest.
This project was a true labour of love!

Studio denim sourced everything in this cottage from furniture and furnishings to each individual piece of art and ornament, mostly curated from antique fairs and second hand sites like vinterior.
