A marriage of old and new

A traditional dining room has been bought back to life through the use of colour and artworks to enhance the impressive proportions of this space. The goal was to prevent this room from being a dumpling ground and to be a multi purpose room that could be used by all members of the family.

The main aim was to respect the house and the history but to integrate youthful touches to reflect the owners and their young family. Studio denim set out to strike the balance of leaning into the house’s heritage without it feeling too grand and stuffy.

The starting point was the colour palette which needed to work historically but also add a sense of playfulness. Beautiful pink walls have been paired with varying greens and grown up fabrics.

Although Studio denim steered the colour choices, the dynamic was the opposite when it came to the art and scuplture, which has been collected over the years but not positioned anywhere so it was a great opportunity to give these beloved pieces a proper home.

Subdued pink

This room needed to feel intimate but at the same time sit as many as eighteen people. The table is an antique which can be extended when needed but day to day remains at the reduced size.

Subtle pattern has been added with the mix of striped weaves, a large scale paisley and the fun marbled table linen.

Lighting was very important due to the scale of the ceiling height, low level lighting has been included as well as the oversized vintage Murano chandelier.

Jewelled tones and playful combinations of old and new prevent this dining room feeling too traditional.
The pink colour palette with varied layers creates a soulful atmosphere!

Studio denim included in the scheme fitted full height bookcases to display the family’s collected pieces.
